Victorian amethyst fringe necklace, c1900
This pretty antique amethyst necklace features stones of a deep, bright purple.
The nine-carat yellow gold bezel set stones – in round, oval and pear shapes – have pinched edges holding them. These were commonly seen in the Victorian era and are reminiscent of Georgian cut-down settings.
The antique extension chain at the back was added later but makes the necklace an eminently wearable 17 inches in length, without taking away from the design.
